Equinet aims to strengthen and support equality bodies and acts as the expert voice of equality bodies to advance equality for all. Facilitating the development of expert and institutional capacities for our members and conveying the knowledge and expertise of equality bodies at European and international levels are two of the ways we aim to achieve those objectives.

In our capacity building and awareness raising events, we aim to have gender equality on all panels and to choose expert speakers representing a variety of minority groups. The voices of young people are included as often as possible. We try to include an intersectional approach and a broad range of voices on all topics, not just linked to a given ground of discrimination. Speaker diversity is something we strongly believe in and commit to promoting as much as possible.

This conference took place on 1 June in Brussels, and was convened to address the challenges to equality, discuss European-level solutions and identify the role equality bodies can play in these.

Equinet and the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) co-organised a conference on poverty and discrimination. This conference aimed to review the links between poverty and discrimination, take stock of recent initiatives introducing socio-economic status as a discrimination ground and discuss what can be done at EU and national levels to break the vicious cycle of social exclusion.

The conference took place in the IHREC offices in Dublin on 22 March 2018. Read our press release here.

On 13-14 November, Equinet organised a seminar for its members on the issue of (lack of) career progress for women. It was cohosted by the Estonian Gender Equality and Equal Treatment Commissioner.

On Thursday 7th December, Equinet organised a conference entitled "Inclusion of and discrimination against migrants in Europe - The contribution of equality bodies" in Brussels, Belgium.

Equinet is organizing a training event on Strategic Litigation for 15 equality body staff members in cooperation with the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights in Warsaw on 4-5 December 2017.

The General Assembly of Equinet Members met in Brussels on 11 October for the 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Equinet AGM saw the election of a new Executive Board, a change in the Equinet Statutes, as well as the adoption of the Workplan for 2018.

On Monday 9th October 2017, MEP Claude Moraes (Chair of LIBE Committee, S&D, UK), ARDI (European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup co-hosted the conference "End of a fruitful dialogue - Impact of Brexit on Equality and Anti-Discrimination in the EU & UK".

This capacity building training session for staff members of equality bodies aimed to support equality body staff in tackling equal pay cases, covering the main tools and opening up a space for equality body staff to discuss the main challenges.

On 10th October 2017, Equinet and its members held a conference on collaborating together for an equal Europe to mark its 10th anniversary. This was followed by a celebratory gathering in the evening to give us the opportunity to dance to the tune of equality together.

On 3 May 2017, Equinet organised a strategic meeting for its members to discuss further steps that could be taken to achieve the introduction and strengthening of standards for equality bodies. The meeting was attended by 21 equality body staff members (representing 19 equality bodies) from 17 jurisdictions.
