Equinet

The training was organised for Equinet members on 23-24 May 2012 by Equinet in collaboration with the Office of the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson in Lithuania.

Equinet’s Law in Practice Working Group decided to concentrate on Religion and Belief cases in its 2011 report as it was apparent to equality bodies that this area of law was bringing forth a number of controversial and difficult cases which were affecting the fundamental rights of those who hold religion and belief and those who do not. The aim of the report is to highlight and clarify the key areas of debate, as well as to provide some conclusions that can be drawn.

This guide is the first result of the work of the Equinet Working Group on Communication Strategies and Practices, established in 2011. The main reason for choosing to develop such a tool is that there are a vast number of communication guides, but none reflects the very particular circumstances of equality bodies’ work. So this guide seeks to explore communication practices in the light of what has worked, and what hasn’t, for practitioners in national equality bodies.

Building on the success of past editions, Equinet organized on 28 March 2012 its fourth High-Level Legal Seminar on "Discrimination cases in front of the European Courts and the role of national equality bodies".

Providing independent assistance to victims of discrimination in pursuing their complaints about discrimination goes to the core of the work of equality bodies. This report analyses different ways of providing that assistance and offers concrete examples and describes some relevant experiences of equality bodies in this area.
