Equinet

Equinet is commissioning a study on the sanctions applied in discrimination cases in Europe and their effects. The study will build on previous research in the field and it will, as a starting point, examine and compare relevant sources of EU and international law and their provisions on sanctions and remedies. This will be complemented by an analysis of trends and good practices in leading case law from international, EU and national courts and national equality bodies. The study will conclude with observations on the effects of the sanctions currently applied in discrimination cases and it will put forward ways in which equality bodies and other actors can contribute to making those sanctions more effective.

This Equinet Good Practice Guide focuses on the work of equality bodies in making recommendations to policy makers/legislators on general issues of discrimination and equal treatment.

This Report analyses harassment on the basis of gender and sexual harassment as forms of discrimination and inequality, but also in the framework of gender-based violence and as violation of human rights.

This report presents some examples from equality bodies on strategic planning in order to inspire and inform others.

An interview with Anne Gaspard, Executive Director of Equinet, with www.diskriminacija.ba (Bosnia and Herzegovina - BiH), highlights that while EU Member States have made significant progress in the fight against discrimination, there are still problems and prejudices which vulnerable groups face. The interview outlines the lessons which authorities and organizations in BiH can learn from European colleagues in the field of combating discrimination and ensuring equal treatment of all groups in society.

The European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 is at its halfway mark and is under review. The list of actions developed for implementing this strategy for the first five years is coming to a close and will need to be reviewed and renewed for the second five years of the strategy. Equinet is seeking to contribute to this review and to the renewal of the list of actions with the publication of this perspective.

This Perspective seeks to explore and assess the institutional architecture that equality bodies form part of, as they implement their mandates to promote equality and combat discrimination.

Positive Action Measures

February 9th 2015

This report discusses the complex legal issues relating to the application of positive action. It takes into account concrete cases, good practice examples and examples of problematic provisions. It is hoped that the report will contribute to a better understanding of the legal nature of positive action as well as of its boundaries as specified by European and national legislation and case law.

This discussion paper seeks to document and inform the contribution of equality bodies to achieving the headline targets of the Europe 2020 strategy, enable Equinet to support the contribution of equality bodies, and inform Equinet’s contribution to the mid-term review of the Europe 2020 strategy.

The General Assembly of Equinet Members met in Brussels on 4 December 2014 for the 2014 Annual General Meeting (AGM).
